Tony Dearth

As President of Dearth Consulting, LLC, Tony provides expert advice and guidance in defense trade policy and regulatory interpretation to individual and corporate clients. He also has experience serving as a Special Compliance Officer for Department of State consent agreements.

Tony retired from federal service at the Department of State in July 2019 with nearly 16 years of experience in the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. When he departed DDTC, he was the Chief of Staff responsible for all personnel, budget, contracting, and management activities for the entire 150-member Directorate and served as the Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary and Principals in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. Previously, as Director of Licensing, he was responsible for the actions of 56 personnel across four operational licensing divisions adjudicating all direct commercial sale export requests received under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Tony is a retiree from the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 21 years across several positions in nuclear operations, command and control, and consequence management. His focus included systems engineering, policy formulation, procedure development, and arms control inspections. He graduated from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at Kansas State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and he earned a Master of Science in Systems Management in 1987 from the University of Southern California.
