Country of Origin in a Complex World
In today's complex global trade environment, determining and managing country of origin is more than a compliance checkbox – it directly impacts tariffs, government procurement eligibility, preferential trade agreements, and your company's overall supply chain resilience. Intended for experienced compliance professionals, this webinar will equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving rules and practical challenges of origin determinations.
We'll begin level-setting the landscape by:
- Exploring the rules of origin that drive critical business decisions (government procurement requirements to preferential and non-preferential trade programs);
- Discussing the complexities that arise with components, transshipment, and derivative goods; and
- Providing an overview of the methods of determining origin, including substantial transformation, tariff shift, and value-based tests.
We'll then focus on the strategies for mitigating risk and managing compliance in practice. This includes:
- Defining roles and responsibilities,
- Building internal and external partnerships to access needed information,
- Balancing agility and stability in compliance programs,
- Implementing a certification of origin process,
- Continuous validation through data, and
- Recordkeeping.
By the end of this session, you'll walk away with actionable strategies to strengthen your origin compliance program, improve visibility across your supply chain, and confidently respond to customer, supplier, and government inquiries.
